Keeping one goose with ducks

Postby daisy » Thu Jul 01, 2010 7:10 pm

Hi,
I got 3 ducklings and a gosling at the start of April - they are all about 12-14 weeks old now. Over the last few days the goose has done some damage to one of the ducks (think its afemale), he only does it when they are in the pond but he has her nearly bald in two areas he's so rough with her.

Should I get rid of the goose - will he keep this up? Should I swap him for a female goose? There are 2 female ducks and one male duck which all seem to be ok together its just the goose thats causing the problem. Keeping poultry is new to me so I would really appreciate any advice. thanks

You have two choices either you can get a goose for your gander or get a goose. We had a few ducks with one young gander and he fell in love with a Peking duck and gave her a very hard time. We have since gotten him a goose and he is much happier. He still loves the Peking, but he now has a mate. Also, keep in mind that when your goose goes sitting next year, your gander will be very very protective of her!!
